Are you attending this year’s Art Hong Kong? Then you shouldn’t miss out on a great tour organized by multimedia production agency OPALNEST, which is run by IC member Helen Wu.
Opalnest produces experiential performances and programs at art events. Together with Vickyh Destinations, they will be custom-designing various art tours for guests visiting the upcoming Art Hong Kong. These tours will be a ‘curated experience’ – an alternative to the mainstream events.
They will consist of exclusive art parties, historical tours led by renowned architects, curated visits to museums and galleries, private gatherings hosted by prestige collectors and local wineries, culinary art happenings, avant-garde events, beau brunches at artist studios, featured excursions to nearby destinations and many more highlights.
If you are interested in the Hong Kong or for future travel editions, feel free to email: art@opalnest.com

Passing Stranger is an audio walking tour of poets and poetry associated with the East Village, created by award-winning radio producer Pejk Malinovski. The tour – narrated by filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, with music by new music pioneer John Zorn – provides an anecdotal, digressive tapestry of the poetry that lived and continues to live in the neighborhood. Our friends at Unsound is making its way from Krakow back to NYC. From April 18 through April 22, the experimental music festival will take over venues across the city presenting artists from overseas as well as local gems such as Sun Araw, Peaking Lights, Zemi17, Julia Holter. We especially dig the programming for THE OPTION OF SILENCE (Jenny Hval, Julia Holter, Julia Kent), TRUE HORIZONS (Pole, Sun Araw, Inner Tube), and anticipate the April 20th party with a massive line-up including Monolake, Ital, Laurel Halo, Zemi17, at the Bunker. And don’t miss the very insightful series of Unsound Labs Discussion Programmes.
Opalnest is pleased to present Editquette – a live visual-sonic performance curated for the 2012 Armory Arts Week Chelsea Day satellite event. Double worlds collide as Tokyo-based artist Hiraku Suzuki (Tokyo, JP) and Julien Langendorff (Paris, FR) will perform live in collaboration with composer–improviser Loren Connors (NYC). Besides experiencing a hypnotic post-rock performance, audiences will be able to capture the act of live–drawing, editing, and collaging–a special happening sparked by the two visual artist.
Opalnest Productions is partnering up with NewIdeas MusicSeries to present the 17th edition of the avant-garde music programme, illuminating duo artist collaborations. Six electronic musicians / sound artists will perform duos in 3 sets to evoke unpredictable sonic dynamics, weaving sounds to create a margin of one. This “margin of one” is a key to unlocking deep intuitive connections. Expect noise, intimacy, and unplugged electronics.
Collaborations include: Stephen Vitiello + Taylor Deupree (12K Label founder) // Keiko Uenishi (Japan, NYC) + Richard Garet (Contour Editions) // Sabisha Friedberg (Paris, NYC) + David Galbraith

On Saturday, February 18, our friends at Berlin Art Link is having a massive party to celebrate their One Year Anniversary at Babette (The Glass Cube) in Berlin. BAL has invited Australian video artist Devon Elise Atkins to create an original video installation utilizing the unique glass architecture of Babette. Andy No Andy from one of Berlin’s favorite underground bands Thieves Like Us will be spinning a DJ set – all of this overlooking the monumental Karl-Marx Allee. I’m almost tempted to fly over to Berlin for this immersive extravaganza. Within one year, BAL has certainly achieved a lot, and has been a great resource for curators like myself. This will be a nice recap for all of their collaborators and partners, including us!
